School Trilogy[1] (학교 3부작) is the first Korean-language and Japanese-language era of BTS' career. It started on June 12, 2013 with their Korean debut single album "2 COOL 4 SKOOL" and officially finished on November 20, 2014 with "Danger (Mo-Blue-Mix) (Feat. Thanh)" music video.

Meanwhile in Japanese-language, the era started on May 23, 2014 with their first Japanese compilation album 2 COOL 4 SKOOL / O!RUL8,2? and officially finished on December 24, 2014 with their first Japanese studio album WAKE UP.

All the content released in this era has the concept of "a defiant teenager".[2] This era is the first part of the Chapter 1: Reflection of Youth and the first part of the BTS Chronicle.[2]

Concept[]

All the Korean-language and Japanese-language content released in this era have the concept of "a defiant teenager"[2] as both have the same songs only in different languages.

Korean-language[]

  • 2 COOL 4 SKOOL: An honest look at BTS's conviction and passion for making music with a message on resisting against social bias and oppression.[3]
  • O!RUL8,2?: A Message to teens living a bleak life of pain and anguish that they have to find happiness in their lives before it's too late.[3]
  • SKOOL LUV AFFAIR: An ode to dreams, happiness and love, with an emphasis on school and teen life.[3]
  • DARK & WILD: Acollection of tracks that explore the unique power of hip hop and demonstrate the musical direction BTS is taking,[3] and the meant is to be a direct continuation of the theme in their previous release.[5]
    • "Danger": Title track, and is about a man who has started dating but isn’t receiving equal attention from the girl he loves.[5]
    • "호르몬 전쟁 (War of Hormone)": Follow-up track, and is about the raging hormones a hot-blooded young man feels when he sees a girl who is perfect front and back, and top to bottom.[6]
