Love Yourself (stylized in all caps) is the fourth Korean-language and Japanese-language era of BTS' career. It started on August 11, 2017 with promotional posters of the era and officially finished on September 6, 2018 with "IDOL (feat. Nicki Minaj)" music video.

Meanwhile in Japan, the era started on November 24, 2017 with "MIC Drop (Japanese Ver.)" music video and officially finished on November 7, 2018 with their ninth Japanese single "FAKE LOVE/Airplane Pt.2".

All the content released in this era of albums and short films has the concept of "self-love" with the Kishōtenketsu (起承転結) structure.[1] This era is the fourth part of the Chapter 1: Reflection of Youth, the fourth part of the BTS Chronicle[1] and is connected to the previous two eras and the following era through the original story BTS Universe.

Concept

All the Korean-language and Japanese-language content released in this era have the concept of "self-love" with the Kishōtenketsu (起承転結) structure[1] as both have the same songs only in different languages.

Korean-language

  • LOVE YOURSELF 起 Wonder: The introduction (起) of the series is a short film with the track "Euphoria" by Jung Kook.
  • LOVE YOURSELF 承 'Her': The development (承) of the series. BTS interprets the experiences young men have while growing up, including the thrill and excitement of love, the way only they can-all while delivering a message of social understanding and unity.[2]
  • LOVE YOURSELF 轉 'Tear': The twist (轉) of the series. BTS openly works through the hurt and pain that come after the breakup of a fake love.[2]
  • LOVE YOURSELF 結 'Answer': The conclusion (結) of the series. BTS fills the album with tracks encompassing a whole series of emotions encountered when finding yourself - from meeting someone new to falling in love.[2]
