They arrive at the hill behind the school, where Mr. Choi's son tells Seok-jin how those men came to his house the night before looking for his father, who hadn't been home for a week after his company shut down. As it was getting late, Seok-jin offers him a place to hide in Seok-jin's house. They sneak him in Seok-jin's room. Just then, Seok-jin's father comes inside his room, looking for Mr. Choi's son. The men from before come and get Mr. Choi's son while Seok-jin's father grabs Seok-jin by the shoulder. Seok-jin pleads to his father but eventually gives up as his father's grip gets tighter. He says that he had gotten home late because he wanted to play with his friends for once, instead of going straight home to help. Suddenly, the phone rings, and after a moment of contemplation, Nam-joon picks it up.[15]
July 25: Yoon-gi's mother calls out for him as he is playing under the sun. He goes to the piano and plays his own songs instead of playing what's written on the music sheet. These events cause them to all be late. They are tasked to clean up a storage classroom as punishment.[26][27][28]

Tae-hyung says that he wants to be a superhero and save the world from the bad guys, and Ho-seok responds that after finding his mother, he wants to live happily. When he asked Ji-min what his dream is, he replies he doesn't know who he wants to be. Nam-joon answers that he has no dreams, that he only wants his salary to increase in his part-time job at the gas station, and these answers leave Jung-kook at a loss of what to write.[30]

Year 20
March 20: Tae-hyung sees Nam-joon standing in front of their secret hideout, and before he plans to surprise Nam-joon he notices Seok-jin inside talking to the principal on the phone. He hears about his and Yoon-gi's names talking about how they skipped class, went over the wall, and got into a fight. Seok-jin feels their presence and is about to make an excuse before Nam-joon tells him it's okay and that there must've been a good reason. Ho-seok and Ji-min arrive at the scene and everyone pretends like nothing happened. Tae-hyung trusts Nam-joon's intuition that it's okay and keeps silent.[38][39]
May 15: On his last day going to school, Nam-joon is in the secret hideout, thinking about his move in two weeks. He tries to think of what to write to the others and ends up writing "You must survive" on a piece of paper with random lead around it. He crumples it and instead writes "See you again," on the window he blows on. He notes that it was a wish, rather than a promise.[40][41]
Between 28~30 May: Nam-joon leaves the city.[40][41]
June 7: Tae-hyung was walking his dog Dubu when he suddenly runs off while Tae-hyung got occupied with his phone. He tries to look for Dubu but as more time passed, he suddenly wonders if Dubu ran away on purpose because he didn't like him. Yoon-gi realizes that he doesn't have the courage to run away. He throws the piano key out the window, declaring that he will give up on playing the piano.[45][46]
July 17: Summer vacation begins, and Seok-jin is eager to leave. However, he is stopped by Ho-seok and Ji-min. Ho-seok asks if he was going home already to which Seok-jin just turns around. He recalls Yoon-gi's expulsion, where he feels guilty about since he didn't know they would be there at the time. Ho-seok notices Seok-jin's expression and decides not to press further, wishing Seok-jin a good vacation and reminding him to keep in touch. Seok-jin blames himself for ruining the moments they shared together, and decides to not chase for his happiness and live like how his father wanted him to.[47][48]
Between July~August: Seok-jin leaves to Los Angeles.[49]

Ji-min having a seizure.

Ji-min hospitalized and lying for the first time.
September 30: Jung-kook gets hit and scolded by the teacher for going to the storage classroom and hanging out with the others. He notes how he always went there every day, even if few or even no one came at all. When he goes there this time, however, he sees Ho-seok packing the things up. He realises this will be the last time he'll go there.[55][56]
Year 21
February 25: Ho-seok practices in front of the mirror. He recalls the time where he first started dancing 12 years ago, noting the joy that came from inside him. He keeps looking himself at the mirror, knowing that the Ho-seok in the mirror isn't bound up from the ground and didn't have to be full of problems. Hence, he protects these moments where he looks at himself in the mirror dancing.[57]
May 2: Jung-kook leaves his house on a bike just as his mother was preparing dinner. He feels melancholic that the others had slowly left one by one without contact, meaning that no one else smiles at him anymore. He goes to the riverbank, where on the other side there were kids playing around. He says that on his side is darkness, and no one would come to him, a moment he wishes never ended.[58]

Seok-jin's beach gallery.
December 17: Nam-joon recalls the year he spent at the new village he and his family lived in. There, he worked as a delivery boy alongside many other boys his age who all worked competitively to volunteer for deliveries. One notable person was someone by the name of Jong-sik or Jong-hun, whom Nam-joon referred to as "Tae-hyung" because he reminded him of the actual Tae-hyung. He took a delivery which was dangerous to ride on a scooter due to the snow. He managed to get home after a small accident, and "Tae-hyung" does the next job in the area because Nam-joon had to bring his father to the hospital. The day after, however, Nam-joon finds out that "Tae-hyung" died on an accident on his way back with the scooter.[60] Nam-joon decides to leave and go back to Songju to escape from his family and the responsibility he had to carry amidst their poverty. He wonders how the others were doing, and as he rides on the bus, writes "You must survive." on the window.[61]
Year 22

Ho-seok working.
March 29: Tae-hyung gets hit by the gas station owner for doing graffiti there. He crouches below his graffiti, remembering the time when he started doing them. Back then, he just picked up a spray can and started spraying on the wall with no thought. Though he thought it was ugly, he knew it was a part of him. Tae-hyung begins to cough up blood when Nam-joon appears and picks up the spraycan. He then helps Tae-hyung stand back up.[66][67]

Year 22

Jung-kook getting beaten up by thugs.
May 22: Tae-hyung is walking along the pine forest when he notices Nam-joon getting a call and trailing behind. He overhears him talking about someone a year younger than him and how he doesn't want to take responsibility for that person. Tae-hyung takes this as referring to him and feels his world crumble. He feels angry to the point of wanting to destroy something, fearing that his father's violence was passed down to him.[113] Later that day, Tae-hyung and Seok-jin get into a fight, with Nam-joon in between trying to stop Tae-hyung. Tae-hyung eventually goes out of the lodging everyone was staying at and Seok-jin tries to find him to no avail. When he goes back, everyone else is gone as he picks up a photo that they had taken just a few hours ago. Once everyone parted ways, Jung-kook gets into a car accident. [114]
May 31: Ho-seok feels like he's like his mother, turning away from someone since he can't look at his long-time friend that he’d known for 10 years. After practice, Ho-seok gets out of breath and goes to the corner of the room. A voice asks him, “Where are you going, Ho-seok-ah?” which reminds him of his mother back when he was age 7.[115]
June 8: Yoon-gi is trying a tight and red T-shirt with the words “DREAM” on and off. It isn't his type, and out of frustration grabs a cigarette. However, he realises that his lighter was taken away by someone and in exchange gave him a lollipop and the T-shirt. He receives a text message from someone and suddenly his "surroundings went white and [his] heart leaped out of [his] chest." Yoon-gi snaps his cigarette in half. The Yoon-gi in the mirror starts to laugh, wearing the T-shirt.[116]
June 13: Seok-jin notes how no one contacted each other since they last saw each other at the sea. He recalls the fight that transpired between him and Tae-hyung and how everyone left in the end. He passes by the gas station where Nam-joon works at, thinking about how one day they would all come together and be happy again. Just then, Ho-seok calls Seok-jin to tell him that Jung-kook got into a car accident the night they separated.[114]
June 25: Someone is following Tae-hyung, who notes that this would be the first time they met at the convenience store. However, every time he would look, the person would disappear and he would pretend to not have seen her. Eventually, that person follows Tae-hyung to an alley and he surprises her, telling that he had known she has been following him all this time.[117]
June 30: Nam-joon goes to an elevator, feeling like times like these feels like it's been done so many times even if it was the first. He looks for someone whose hair is tied with a yellow rubber band. He eventually finds that person, saying how someone's back can tell many stories, with few he could only guess and few that couldn't be explained. Their eyes meet from the reflection of the wall and Nam-joon immediately looks away. When he looks back, he could only see himself instead.[118]

Ji-min practicing alone.
July 16: Jung-kook stands by the window, listening and singing along to a song. It had been a week since he listened to it, and now he could sing along without looking at the lyrics. Someone had told him that the lyrics were pretty, which made Jung-kook embarrassed. Eventually, he closes his eyes while singing. Something tickles and stings his heart, unsure whether it was from the song or the sun.[120]
August 15: Seok-jin nearly gets into a car accident as he stumbles upon a flower shop that's still in construction. He goes inside with not much expectations, knowing how several other shops he’d visited didn't know of the flower's existence. He still asks the owner, who in turn does indeed know and can arrange a delivery even if the shop hasn't officially opened yet. The owner asks Seok-jin why it had to be that flower, to which he replies that it’s because he wants to be a good person and wants to make someone happy.[121][122]

Year 22
April 11: Seok-jin abruptly stops the car, having been lost in thought to not have noticed the traffic light earlier. Students pass by as Seok-jin watches and smiles at them. He knows what he has to do, yet it didn't mean he wasn't afraid. He wonders if he could really save everyone despite the many attempts. He drives towards the gas station while having these thoughts. As Seok-jin sees Nam-joon, he takes a deep breath and pictures everyone in his mind. Even if it was less than a one percent chance, he won't give up. He then approaches Nam-joon.[123]
May 2: Jung-kook goes to Nam-joon's container and covers himself with garments. He recalls what happened at the motel. There he saw Yoon-gi standing on the bed as flames surrounded the entire room. He couldn’t muster up what else to say other than "I thought we were all going to the sea together." Jung-kook wakes up from being shaken by Nam-joon, who asks him if he had a bad dream. Jung-kook feels a sense of relief seeing him, but soon finds out that he has a fever. Nam-joon gives him medicine and tells him to sleep some more before they could talk. Jung-kook asks Nam-joon if he can become an adult like him, and Nam-joon doesn’t answer.[124]
May 19: Ji-min decides that he has to go to the Grass Flower Arboretum. He needs to stop lying to himself that what had happened there years ago didn't happen and that he would be able to stop having seizures. However, every time the bus for the arboretum would arrive, he ends up not going. Eventually, Yoon-gi comes up beside him after he misses the third bus. Yoon-gi says that he was bored and asks Ji-min what he was doing at the bus stop. Ji-min lowers his head and ponders to himself about the answer. He knows that in the end, he is still afraid. He notices how relaxed Yoon-gi is. Yoon-gi tells him about how nice the weather is, and Ji-min realises that he had been worrying too much to not have noticed how nice the weather is indeed. Eventually, another bus comes in and Ji-min asks Yoon-gi if he could come with him.[125]
May 20: Ho-seok fetches Tae-hyung from the police station. On their way to Tae-hyung's house, Ho-seok wonders why his house was so close to the police station. Ho-seok asks Tae-hyung if he was hungry, but Tae-hyung declines. Ho-seok thinks about how much suffering Tae-hyung must be going through. He recalls how he saw Tae-hyung's bruises back when he was at Nam-joon’s container[112] but didn't press on it. Ho-seok knows that in regards to problems with family, he probably has more wounds as he couldn't even recall his father and his mother left him at age 7. He knows how people say that they have to overcome their pains, but finds himself wondering why they had to go through them in the first place. They eventually arrive at Tae-hyung's place, and Tae-hyung tells Ho-seok that he can go alone. Ho-seok continues to walk with him but Tae-hyung tells him that he's fine as Ho-seok thinks there was no way Tae-hyung could be fine. Eventually, he retreats back, noting that both of their paths are narrow and they are both alone. Suddenly, Ho-seok's phone rings, leading him to look back to Tae-hyung's direction.[126] Tae-hyung attacks his father but is stopped by Ho-seok before he could hit him. Tae-hyung ends up injuring himself and his father leaves the room. Tae-hyung collapses but is caught by Ho-seok. He thinks about all the pent up rage against his father, but knows that in the end, the only one he wanted to kill was not his father but himself. Tae-hyung tells Ho-seok to go away who obliges. He ends himself looking at Nam-joon's phone number, wanting to tell him how he had killed his abusive father so many times in his head and now he had almost done it in reality. He feels lost and just wants to see Nam-joon.[127]
May 22: The boys are all walking towards their lodging from the beach when Nam-joon gets a call from his parents. He tells them how his younger brother could take care of himself and apologizes before ending. Nam-joon notes that it wasn't that he didn't care nor love his family, but it was that he just wanted to run away. But deep inside he knows that he truly can't. From far off, he notices Jung-kook who is unmoving just like him. He recalls the time when Jung-kook tells him that he wanted to be like him.[124] He didn't answer because he didn't know what to tell him, knowing that he himself isn't an adult at all. He didn't want to tell him that being an adult doesn't just mean growing older. Nam-joon wishes that the future will be kinder for Jung-kook, but couldn't promise he would be able to help him on that.[128] Later that day, Jung-kook gets into an accident. He looks at the moon as he struggles to cough. Just as his consciousness fades, he hears a voice telling him, "It’ll be more painful to live than to die. Do you still want to live?"[129]

He ends up at a wall where the girl did her first graffiti. Only now however, a large "X" is drawn over her drawing. Although he didn't witness it, Tae-hyung knows that "X" was done by the girl. However, he doesn't really know for sure as to why. He looks back to all those times they spent together. He feels as though the large "X" meant all the memories were fake. He feels upset, but doesn't know why. Tae-hyung ends up walking away, realising that the both of them were alone again.[139]

Year 22
April 11: Seok-jin wakes up again. In the previous timeline, they were at a beach on May 22 when Tae-hyung climbed up a platform and leaped off. A mirror breaks and brings Seok-jin back to April 11.[144] Later that day, Nam-joon is working at the gas station when a crumbled bill brushes against his face. The customers are laughing at him, and from the distance he sees Seok-jin. He wants to stand up against them but knows that he can't because he's just a part-timer at the gas station. Nam-joon bends his head low when he sees Seok-jin pick up the bill as the customers drive away. Seok-jin doesn't move nor speak.[145] Jung-kook climbs to the rooftop and stands on the edge. He is about to jump off when his phone rings, revealing to be Yoon-gi.[146] Jung-kook and Yoon-gi walk along the train tracks and arrive at Nam-joon's container, which was the fourth one from the end. Ho-seok had invited him to join him to meet up with Nam-joon and Tae-hyung. The two come inside, with Ho-seok surprised that Yoon-gi actually came. Soon thereafter, Nam-joon comes inside with Tae-hyung, whose shirt is torn during his chase with the police. Yoon-gi sits in the corner as he watches the others. Nam-joon gives Tae-hyung a T-shirt,[112] Ho-seok gives out burgers and drinks, and Jung-kook stands awkwardly. Yoon-gi notes how the scene looked like back in high school. He wonders where Seok-jin and Ji-min are. He feels himself at ease, even if it was his first time going to the container.[147]
April 28: Nam-joon talks about knowing something has been going on with Tae-hyung. He knows about the wounds in Tae-hyung's body and of his nightmares, yet Tae-hyung would act as if nothing was wrong. Nam-joon never asks Tae-hyung or tells him to let it out. It was because he wants Tae-hyung to tell it himself, but also because he feels like he isn't worthy to unload the burden for him. Nam-joon knows for himself that he's not a true adult nor older brother figure despite their praises. Tae-hyung wakes up from Nam-joon shaking him. He stares blankly as he lets himself cry. Eventually, Tae-hyung tells Nam-joon of his nightmare of Yoon-gi's death, Jung-kook's accident, and Nam-joon's fight. Tae-hyung tells Nam-joon to not go anywhere.[148]
May 2: Yoon-gi is surrounded by flames. He doesn't sense anything else from the room other than the pain he feels from the heat. Then, he suddenly remembers his father. He recalls how he and his father were different and couldn't understand each other. He realised how he wasn't really breaking free from his father, but didn't know where he was really breaking free from. Jung-kook arrives and calls out to Yoon-gi, who doesn't look up. Yoon-gi knows Jung-kook would be mad and sad at him, but still wants everything to end. He hears him shout something he couldn't understand.[124] Yoon-gi eventually raises his head. The last things he sees are the flaming room and Jung-kook's face before losing consciousness.[149]

Ji-min catches Ho-seok.
May 15: Ji-min wakes up to find Ho-seok beside him. It's late and everyone else is asleep. Ho-seok gives Ji-min a T-shirt and tells him that everyone came to save him. Nam-joon is guarding, Yoon-gi is distracting the nurses, and Tae-hyung and Jung-kook are standing at the elevator. Ji-min had always dreamed of getting out of the hospital, but wondered if it was even a good idea. He had heard whispers about his mental illness and wondered if Ho-seok thought the same and found him weird. Ho-seok urges Ji-min to start moving when the sound of footsteps come. Ho-seok offers his hand to Ji-min.[151]
May 16: Ji-min is at Ho-seok's house, who tells him how it has the best and widest view of the city. Ji-min sees the train tracks with containers around where Nam-joon resides and the school everyone had gone to. He eventually finds his parents' house, realising he ran away from the hospital without a word. He knows the hospital would contact his parents and look for him. Ji-min doesn't have the courage to face them and that is why he followed Ho-seok to his house instead. He looks away from his parents' house, knowing someday he'll have to meet them and tell them he's not going back to the hospital. However, he feels scared that he couldn't handle it and have another seizure.[152]
May 22: Tae-hyung looks straight at Seok-jin, asking him if there way anything else he was hiding from them. Seok-jin just looks back at him with no response. Tae-hyung is about to press further when Nam-joon stops him. Tae-hyung snaps at Nam-joon, telling him why he's involving himself even if they weren't real brother. He recalls the call he had overheard,[113] knowing it's the reason why he's upset at Nam-joon. Seok-jin apologises to Tae-hyung and asks that they stop talking about it. Tae-hyung refuses, telling him that they should talk about everything and accusing him of hiding something. Nam-joon intervenes and tells them to talk outside, grabbing Tae-hyung's arm. Tae-hyung refuses, telling him that he doesn't have the right to stop him nor does he know anything. Nam-joon lets go of his arm, and Tae-hyung feels as if the bond they had together had snapped right then and there. A part of him wants Nam-joon to not have let go and instead scolded him like a real brother. Tae-hyung begins to laugh, mocking their relationship and how in the end they'll all be alone. Seok-jin then hits Tae-hyung.[153]
July 20: Nam-joon brushes through magazines in the library. He notices that the girl doesn't seem to come by anymore as different people come by at where the girl would've sat on. He's not particularly reading and ponders what even was he doing. Eventually the days of highschool comes back to him, and he wonders if he has ever grown. And such from that point Nam-joon decides to start over and go back to studying, something that he had given up, once again.[154]
July 26: Jung-kook is far from the hospital, having left the flowers at the bench. He recalls the locations he and the girl used to hang out at as well as the things they talked about. He had told the girl stories about him and the others. Earlier, Jung-kook had asked the nurses what happened to the girl but didn't get any answers. Jung-kook realises all he really talked about was his friends. He thinks that one day, even his friends would be gone too. Jung-kook recalls his accident[129] and how the car felt familiar. He doesn't want to jump into conclusions but still has it in mind.[155]
July 28: Ji-min waits for the train to stop so that he can fully practice alone. Whenever he practices with others, he's more drawn to see the flaws of his dancing, which is why he keeps practicing alone. He notes, however, that whenever he practices alone this way, all his fear and insecurities disappear. He'd always known he's weak and powerless, but whenever he dances, all he could think about is the movement. Whenever he dances, he feels as if all his feelings and thoughts gets expressed through it, and with that, he could feel himself liking himself a bit more.[156]
July 29: Yoon-gi keeps thinking about the song he had made with the girl. He recalls the time he had picked up the half-burnt key but then threw it away with his first declaration to give up on playing the piano.[45][46] However, he had regretted that decision and tried to look for it, only to find that he really had lost the key. Yoon-gi talks about how many times he tried to give up on music, but knows that in the end he'll end up coming back to it. He knows music brings up many conflicting emotions both good and bad. Then, he feels as though he wants to play the piano again. He wants to finish the song he had made with the girl, feeling sure that this time he'd be able to.[157]
August 3: Seok-jin is at their old secret hideout with the others. He suddenly flashes back to the events that happened in school and wanting to leave. However, Tae-hyung doesn't let him and keeps on asking him to remember. He thinks about how the memory Tae-hyung wants him to remember is meaningless, and how he thinks memories are ones that take root deep inside a person. With this thought, all his memories of the hideout are bad ones. Tae-hyung and Seok-jin end up in a fight when Seok-jin stumbles and falls. As he falls, he knocks down what was thought to be a wall to reveal an extended version of the classroom with a lone cabinet in the center. Nam-joon opens the cabinet and picks up the notebook inside. When he opens the first page, Seok-jin finds the name of his father. He snatches the notebook from Nam-joon and begins to read what's inside. Inside the notebook are accounts of his father's time in high school with his friends. Some of the pages are covered by what seems to be bloodstains. Seok-jin finds that his father experienced the same mistakes he had. The notebook also counts his father's failures, and that he had given up and betrayed his friends. It turns night as everyone else falls asleep. Seok-jin notices faint letters over the smeared black ink pages. He realises the notebook held more memories than what was merely written. That the ones that are hidden or blank are the ones his father decided to forget. That the notebook contains Seok-jin's father's map of his bent soul. Seok-jin begins to cry as he closes the notebook. He looks back to his friends and thinks that they were meant to come back to their hideout. He realises that he had to come here to understand all his mistakes and suffering, and that he is able to the the first step in finding the map of his soul.[158]
August 11: Tae-hyung walks past the graffiti marked with "X" on.[139] He notices the words "It's not your fault" below it. He believes it was written by the girl, telling him that her leaving wasn't his fault and that he shouldn't blame himself. He ends up back at home where his father is beating his sister back up. Tae-hyung intervenes and holds his father tight. He knows that even if he is scared, nothing will change if he doesn't do anything. He concludes that he's not like his father, and that he will protect his family.[159]
August 13: Ho-seok watches Ji-min and his friend dance together. Ever since his ankle got injured, he only ended up watching by, but soon came to a realisation that he is still dancing with them in an essence. He recalls that whenever he dances with Ji-min, he always found a lot of mistakes and would correct them one by one. However, when he watches Ji-min perform, he realises that the imperfections of Ji-min's dance is what makes him unique and gives off his own vibe. The dance ends and Ho-seok gives a thumbs up. He recalls how the girl will have to go overseas soon. He wonders why he thought she looked like his mother when he can't even remember her face. Ho-seok's heart begins to ache.[160]
August 30: Seok-jin meets up with the girl and gives back her diary. He had thought that if he wanted to be a good person, he should follow all the things in her diary. But it became scary for him because of how much he would try to hide his real self. Seok-jin comes to a realisation that the only way to go forward is to be true to himself. He walks away from the girl and looks at the window. He looks over the flawed parts of his face and laughs.[161]
花樣年華 THE NOTES 1
Note: Some notes in this book may be similar as the notes during the "Love Yourself" era.
Year 22
April 11: Tae-hyung wakes up from a nightmare at dawn. He was in the container town enveloped in flames. There were screaming, shattering, and crying. There, he found Nam-joon laying on the ground with blood surrounding him. Someone told him that he's dead. Tae-hyung walks out of his apartment room and to the container town himself. He finds Nam-joon's container, realising that he must be asleep and that his nightmare is indeed just a nightmare.[162] Later that day, Seok-jin abruptly stops the car, having been lost in thought to not have noticed the traffic light earlier. He then approaches Nam-joon.[123][163] Nam-joon is working at the gas station when a crumbled bill brushes against his face. The customers are laughing at him, and from the distance he sees Seok-jin. He wants to stand up against them but knows that he can't because he's just a part-timer at the gas station. Nam-joon bends his head low when he sees Seok-jin pick up the bill as the customers drive away. Seok-jin doesn't move nor speak.[145][164] Later on, Jung-kook bumps into some thugs on purpose, leading him to get beaten up. The thugs call Jung-kook crazy for laughing while getting beaten up and start hitting him more. He is eventually left on the ground as he recalls how his step-brother would kick him, the rest of his new family would not acknowledge his existence, and his mother would act indifferent. Jung-kook climbs to the rooftop and stands on the edge.[111] He is about to jump off when his phone rings, revealing to be Yoon-gi.[146][165] Jung-kook and Yoon-gi walk along the train tracks and arrive at Nam-joon's container, which was the fourth one from the end. He feels himself at ease, even if it was his first time going to the container.[147] However, his easiness doesn't last for long as he suddenly has the urge to get out. He remembers how much fun they had together in school, and realises that just like then, their happy moments would come to an end. Yoon-gi wonders if there is any point to be feeling good.[166] Seok-jin watches the others in the container from the distance. He wonders what everyone else looks like and what they're talking about. He knows he can't meet them yet, but there will come a day where they can all laugh and be together again. Seok-jin drives away.[167]
April 27: Ji-min gets sent from the psychiatric ward to the surgery ward after getting into a fight with an escaping patient.[168]
Tae-hyung tells Nam-joon to not go anywhere.[145] Nam-joon remembers the face of the "Tae-hyung" he met back then. He can't bring himself to answer and reassure Tae-hyung that he's not going anywhere.[169]
Between April 29~May 1: Seok-jin ponders about his plan to save everyone. He finds that Yoon-gi was someone he had a hard time figuring it out because he changes his location and time often. He thinks about why it was that case and concludes it's because Yoon-gi's conflict is from within him. Seok-jin watches Yoon-gi stagger on until he reaches his workroom. There, a bird flies through Yoon-gi's room, injuring itself as it flew through a broken window. Yoon-gi is standing in the middle of the room with a lighter while the room reeks of gasoline. Yoon-gi watches the bird flop around until eventually going down to pick up the bird. Later that night, Seok-jin goes inside and finds papers lying around. He finds the bird behind the piano, who looked petrified when Seok-jin goes near. Seok-jin wonders how the bird entrusted its life to Yoon-gi, and that this bird is how Yoon-gi stopped himself from starting another fire.[170]

Jung-kook saving Yoon-gi from the fire.
May 10: Ho-seok notes how he always dreams of his mother whenever he collapses. The dreams featured him as a kid and his mother on a bus. He would always call out to her, and once she turns her head, Ho-seok wakes up. Ho-seok had only realised his mother left him when he's 20. Ho-seok collapses on the bridge,[73][74] dreams of the same bus scene, and wakes up in a six-person hospital room.[174] Later that night, Ho-seok has a bad dream and Ji-min, not knowing it was Ho-seok wakes up from the groaning. Ji-min taps his shoulder and tells him that it's okay and that it's all a dream.[168]

Ho-seok and Ji-min at the hospital.
May 12: Ho-seok runs down the stairs after seeing who he thinks is his mother. Meanwhile, Ji-min hears someone call out to him from the stairs and goes there. As he goes down, he trips but Ji-min, who manages to arrive there right on time, catches him before falling. He goes back to look for her before finding out it was a random woman with a boy. Ho-seok doesn't remember how he got out of that situation nor how Ji-min managed to be there. He realises that he probably knew it wasn't his mother in the first place, knowing that it had already been 10 years, and he can barely remember her face anymore. Ji-min follows Ho-seok. The two talk about the last time they had seen each other[50][51] and how Ji-min had been staying at the hospital since then. Ho-seok realises how he and Ji-min are alike, being trapped in their memories. Then, Ho-seok tells Ji-min and they should get out.[150][176] Ji-min, however, tells him that he's going back to the psychiatric ward in a few days. Later on, Ho-seok gets discharged and leaves the hospital, with Ji-min 5 steps away from the exit watching him go. As Ji-min was about to turn back, a patient runs past him, causing Ji-min to fall down and cross the invisible line. He stands up and takes one more step towards the exit, before turning around and going back to his room.[177]

Ji-min escaping the hospital.
He looks away from his parents' house, knowing someday he'll have to meet them and tell them he's not going back to the hospital.[152] Ho-seok stands by beside him.[180] He thinks about how he could be his most honest self at home. In his home, he could scream, dance like crazy, or weep at night. But he never had collapsed from narcolepsy at home. He watches Ji-min watch over the buildings and wonder if he's finding for his home, thinking it was instinct for someone to do so. Ho-seok wants to ask why Ji-min didn't go home, but decides not to, having an idea based on what he remembers of Ji-min's mother.[50][51] He finds that he doesn't actually bring up to ask his friends out of having an idea on the answer and to avoid awkwardness. He'd always wonder about everyone whenever they pass by the burger joint. Ho-seok asks Ji-min if he had found his home. Ji-min nods. Ho-seok then directs Ji-min to his orphanage. Ji-min looks as if he was wondering why Ho-seok is telling him this. Ho-seok then confesses to Ji-min that his narcolepsy is fake. He feels as though the reason why he can't bring up to ask the others about their problems is that he himself can't be honest to them either. Ho-seok continues, telling him that he isn't doing it on purpose and that his brain is making him ignore that there's a way for him to be okay. Ji-min asks if he's okay now. Ho-seok sees Ji-min's eyes, which was neither criticizing nor sympathizing. He answers Ji-min, telling him that he doesn't know but he looks forward to the day that he is okay. He and Ji-min laughs.[181]
Eventually, another bus comes in and Ji-min asks Yoon-gi if he could come with him.[125][182]

Ho-seok and Tae-hyung at Tae-hyung's house.
May 22: Jung-kook gets woken up in the car, with everyone having reached the sea and playing on the beach. Jung-kook steps out when wind passes by as dust and sand blow. Jung-kook's eyes sting from the sand, and Ho-seok tells him to not rub it. Jung-kook goes to blink continuously instead and begins to cry. The others laugh at him. He begins to mockingly chase the others until it turned into a full race. Eventually, they all calm down and lie on the sand. Nam-joon notes how this is exactly like last time, and Jung-kook replies the date of it being June 12, much to everyone's surprise. He had sometimes looked at the photo they took on that day, not telling anyone how the others felt like his real brothers. Jung-kook is about to express his gratitude to the others but finds himself at a loss on what to say.

Seok-jin and Tae-hyung fighting.

Jung-kook getting hit.
Just then, Ho-seok calls Seok-jin to tell him that Jung-kook got into a car accident the night they separated.[114][197] At the hospital, Jung-kook finds Ho-seok and Ji-min standing beside his bed. Ji-min asks if he's alright, and Jung-kook lies that he's not hurt. Ho-seok asks why he didn't call them, and Jung-kook can't bring himself to answer. He knows he hadn't called because his mind was blank and is in unbearable pain. Even when the pain subsided, he still has images flash that he's not sure whether or not it actually happened. Jung-kook tries to smile even though he was about to cry.[198] Ho-seok goes out of the room, feeling himself crying. He recalls how he initially found out about Jung-kook's accident, which is from students talking about him in the burger joint. He'd messaged the others about it but no one replied for a while, wondering what their friendship meant to each other. He feels mad for letting Jung-kook walk alone during the night of his accident. When Ho-seok sees that four other people hadn't seen the message, he replies with, "This is disappointing." Ho-seok goes back into the room to find Ji-min and Jung-kook talking about Ji-min's recent achievement of joining a dance crew. Tae-hyung calls Ho-seok, and Ho-seok asks Tae-hyung why he didn't see the message sooner. Tae-hyung replies in a croaky voice, as if he had been crying.[199] He asks how Jung-kook is, which were the only words he could muster to say. Ho-seok hands the phone to Jung-kook, who tells Tae-hyung that he's fine. Tae-hyung then tells Jung-kook that he's going to the hospital. However, he ends up not going inside after seeing Nam-joon and Seok-jin. He hears Nam-joon saying that he hasn't changed, and Tae-hyung thinks that even he hasn't changed at all either. However, he notes that there had been one change since the fight at the beach, and that's about how his dreams changed. This time, he dreams of Seok-jin with a bunch of blue flowers crying. The elevator door opens and Tae-hyung goes inside, not ready to meet Seok-jin and Nam-joon yet.[200] Nam-joon talks with Jung-kook about mundane things, wondering how he didn't ask about the fight that night. Likewise, he didn't take the initiative to tell Jung-kook about the fight. Nam-joon and Seok-jin leave the hospital as Seok-jin asks Nam-joon if he's okay since he never said a word while they went back. Nam-joon apologizes and the two part ways near the gas station. Nam-joon goes to the container, having not been there since the fight and choosing to stay at the gas station's room. However, he knows the container was where Tae-hyung would stay in away from his father. But he never came by knowing that he's afraid to talk to Tae-hyung. He knows he lies about being okay, knowing that everything that happened that night wasn't okay and Jung-kook's accident might've not happened if the fight didn't occur. But he still talked to Jung-kook as if everything was okay. He notes how he hasn't changed in terms of hesitating to take the initiative.[201]
June 14: Yoon-gi shows his work to his partner, who says that it's really nice. She begins to harmonize with the piano using her guitar. Hours later, Yoon-gi's partner reminds him to perform with him at the hospital the next day in the morning.[202]
June 15: Yoon-gi has a dream where he follows a faint whistling sound amongst a fog. He reached a garden of an apartment complex and finds the half-burnt piano key. Before he could grab the key, everything disappeared and suddenly it gets replace with him at the workroom. He found Jung-kook in front of the piano saying something which made him laugh. He couldn't recall when that happened, but the scene itself was imprinted on his memory. Yoon-gi continuously has different memories play before he wakes up from a loud banging.

Yoon-gi's phone rings.

Jung-kook finds the lighter.
July 3: Ji-min recalls back how Ho-seok have been the main person to unite the group and how he keeps a lively nature among them. He brings this up with Ho-seok's growing upsetting feeling since his visit to Jung-kook. Ji-min also recalls how he had been joining Ho-seok's dance team Just Dance. Ho-seok sits in the corner of the practice room for most of the time since the visit, and the only person that would cheer him up is an orphanage friend. Ji-min recalls once more how he had always loved dancing, but had stopped the hobby ever since his frequent hospital stays that prevented him to practice. This led him to stay after hours at the practice room to dance so he could slowly match up to the skills of the other members.[119]He brings his thoughts back to when he had decided to go back to his parents' house to declare his farewell to the hospital.[196]
July 4: Ji-min collides with his dancing partner after losing his focus while dancing. His arms begins to bleed, giving him flashbacks to the arboretum and rushing to the bathroom to frantically scrub off the blood. After he had calmed down a bit, Ji-min realises that his partner also fell and went back to the practice room to look for her, only to find the place empty. He runs outside with an umbrella to see Ho-seok carrying the girl. He contemplates running to give the umbrella, but instead steps back inside feeling guilty of being still trapped by his eight-year-old self.[207][135] Meanwhile, as Ho-seok brings the girl to the hospital, he trips and sprains his ankle. He still continues on and reaches the hospital. While waiting for the doctor to treat the girl, the girl's bag, which Ho-seok has been carrying, drops to the floor. Ho-seok discovers a plane ticket which meant that the girl passed the audition to join an international dance team. The doctor calls for Ho-seok and he quickly shoves the items that fell out of the bag inside. The doctor says that the girl only had a concussion and that she's fine. The girl appears before Ho-seok and calls for him, but Ho-seok interrupts by going out, saying he'll get an umbrella. He felt that the girl wanted to say something but wasn't ready to hear it.[136] The two arrive back at the dance studio where Ji-min stayed waiting. Ho-seok assures Ji-min that the girl's okay but Ji-min's head sunk low still feeling guilty.[208]
July 5: Ho-seok's ankle gets swollen since the accident yesterday. He puts on a pain relief patch to ease the pain and tries to go about his day.[208]
July 7: Ho-seok recalls the event that happened a few days ago, realising that his ankle had progressively gotten worse and a more serious injury. However, he knew he still needed to go to work and go to practice at the dance studio.[208]

Tae-hyung surrenders.

Nam-joon leaves the hairband.
July 14: Nam-joon invites Seok-jin to drinks after his shift. Nam-joon talks about how he's tired of pretending to be a friend that's there for them, even when in reality he doesn't do anything. They talk about their high school days and Seok-jin asks Nam-joon why he defended him when he got caught calling the principal. Nam-joon replies instead with asking why Seok-jin was doing that in the first place. Seok-jin, out of being tipsy from the drinks, ends up confessing about his childhood to Nam-joon and honestly answering why he was ratting them out. Nam-joon then asks Seok-jin if he plans on telling the others since they too need to know, but Seok-jin bids goodbye to him. As Seok-jin goes home, he ponders about if he would ever tell about the time loops and the unfortunate events the members had and if Nam-joon would ever believe him. He tries to think how he'd react in his place. Seok-jin changes his thoughts to recalling the events a few days ago, where he passes by a lively Tae-hyung at the convenience store. He wonders how he can be so lively and ponders how he would reconcile with him.[211]
July 16: Ho-seok visits Jung-kook at the hospital. He looks through Jung-kook's sketchbook page by page, finding ones where they were in various places hanging out and then one drawing of Jung-kook lying down on the asphalt. Jung-kook jokes that he looks in much better shape than Ho-seok due to his ankle. Jung-kook notes that if nothing goes wrong in next week's examination, he can go home. Ho-seok then thinks of holding a party similar to Ji-min's for Jung-kook's discharge. Jung-kook asks Ho-seok if Seok-jin had ever talked about the day of the incident, asking if Seok-jin perhaps saw Jung-kook. Ho-seok is confused and Jung-kook decides to change the question, instead asking if Ho-seok is a good person. Ho-seok brushes the question off and leaves, pondering if he was a good person.[212]
July 24: Chang-jun's secretary calls for Seok-jin in his conference room, with Seok-jin not having a clue as to why but knowing he can't excuse himself out of it. On their way there, Chang-jun asks Seok-jin if he still hangs out with his friends. Seok-jin doesn't answer because he knows his father wasn't really asking but ordering. Chang-jun tells him to not waste time on friends as they're worth nothing, and that this is from experience. He tells him that he needs to help out more in the company and that this will allow him to grow into a better adult. When they arrive, Seok-jin wanted to call to let the others know he can't go to the party but the meeting had started and everything is quiet.[213] Meanwhile, Ji-min and Tae-hyung arrive at Nam-joon's container for the party. Jung-kook have already arrived and Ho-seok left after preparing because of his shift. Ji-min notes that they couldn't contact Yoon-gi, Nam-joon would arrive late, and that Seok-jin hasn't arrived despite saying he'd come. Ji-min notices that Tae-hyung still seemed uncomfortable at Nam-joon's place and knows that he can't really liven up the mood. Ji-min thinks about how they had all gotten distant ever since the incident and thinks that it may have been due time as everyone already has things to do and can't make time for one another. He knows for himself he still needs to prove to his parents that he doesn't need to go back to the hospital anymore. Jung-kook stands up and walks out of the container but Ji-min stops him and tells him to at least wait for Nam-joon. Jung-kook tells him that he's only checking for rain. Either way, the three boys clean up the container and leave in the dark.[214] Tae-hyung goes back home. Upon arriving, Tae-hyung sees his father on the floor and his sister telling him that someone apparently called the cops thinking their father was beating them. Soon after, the police arrive and Tae-hyung's sister apologizes to the police and tells them everything is alright and that no one is hurt. The women in the neighborhood are eyeing the situation and Tae-hyung feels embarrassed. He thinks about how his father's alcoholism has gotten worse and the time he had almost stabbed him. A police officer goes to Tae-hyung and tells him that the woman who called must've been worried but remained calm and that he should thank her for calling before anything got bad. Tae-hyung asks if the woman's voice was low and husky but the officer couldn't recall. After everyone else is gone, Tae-hyung asks his sister if she still contacts their mother. She doesn't answer and Tae-hyung asks if she knows her number or address. Her sister replies saying that she doesn't know her numebr but knows she lives in an apartment in Buk-gu, Munhyeon. She asks why Tae-hyung asked and he responds so that he can ask her why she left and why she suddenly called. Tae-hyung leaves and heads to Munhyeon by walking. He didn't have money for a taxi nor were there any buses that late into the night. Eventually, Tae-hyung notices Jung-kook has been following him the whole time and realising that Jung-kook has now found out about his life when he tried hard not to tell anyone. He tries to outwalk him but gives up. After an hour of walking, Jung-kook asks where they're going and Tae-hyung tells him to his mother's. Tae-hyung realises that he doesn't actually have an idea on where exactly his mother lived nor what exactly he would tell her, and that he left out of pure anger. He imagines what would happen once he meets her. Tae-hyung realises Jung-kook just got discharged and asks if his leg was okay, and Jung-kook responds that it was actually recommended for him to walk a lot. Realising they were both hungry, the two went to a convenience store and bought cup noodles. Tae-hyung leaves him temporarily to also buy drinks when a mysterious man with a dark khaki overcoat and dirty and bushy gray hair arrives and devours Tae-hyung's noodles. Some troublemakers also arrive and beat the man and quickly leave. This leads to the table falling with the man and dropping their noodles on Jung-kook's legs, which weren't fortunately hurt. Tae-hyung calls them out for the mess and it resulted to a fight. A convenience store worker calls the police and everyone quickly flees. They decide they should go back home as it was already 4:50 A.M. Tae-hyung proposes they watch the sunrise first on a hill before doing so. There, Tae-hyung thinks again about where his mother lived exactly. He recalls the time of when his mother left at night and he tried to follow her but gave up because his mother didn't seem to look back at him. He tells Jung-kook of this and wonders now why he tries to go after her. Jung-kook says sorry and Tae-hyung gets mad and asks why he's saying sorry when everyone else should be the one apologizing to Jung-kook because he's a good kid. They eventually come down the hill after the sunrise and head home, before noticing the bushy man on their way back.[215]
July 25: Ho-seok's soft cast has been replaced with a real plaster cast as his ankle had gotten worse, and his doctor kept advising him to be careful unless he wants to have permanent damage. He stumbles upon a very drunk Yoon-gi on the streets. He thinks about how he had known him since middle school as well as what had happened to his family. However, he feels as though he's been wrapped up in his own problems that he had not shown any care for them as Ho-seok had never seen Yoon-gi visit Jung-kook and had stumbled upon Yoon-gi's music partner looking for him. Ho-seok ends up lashing out at the drunk Yoon-gi, telling him that he's not the only one suffering and how he, Ho-seok, is also suffering even if he's all sunshine and bright. He continues to tell him how everyone loves his music and how that's something he should live for and asks if he even cares about Jung-kook. Eventually, he ends it by saying that Yoon-gi should not come back to them anymore if he'll keep running away. Ho-seok feels that him lashing out was also due to his own helplessness due to his ankle, thinking how he can't get himself to stop dancing even if he knows things will get worse. Yoon-gi calls out for Ho-seok but Ho-seok doesn't respond and walks away.[216] Yoon-gi passes out and wakes up drenched from the rain later that night. He thinks about his encounter with Ho-seok and realises that he had no idea how much time had passed and was partly glad Ho-seok was there so he could understand what's been going on. But Ho-seok walked away and he was left there. He wanted to respond to Ho-seok how he couldn't see Jung-kook because it felt like it was his fault. He stands up and sees a mountain trail and decides to go deeper into the forest. He feels tired and ponders if this is where he'd eventually die. He laid down again and thinks how him dying right now might've been a good thing because of how much pain he had given the others. However, he shot his eyes up again upon hearing a piano. He realises it was the melody that could've completed his piece. As he was about to stand up, he thinks about why does it matter if he could complete his music, as he wasn't looking for fame nor approval. He continues to stand up and slowly follow where the piano is coming from but the sound eventually stopped. He tried to guess where it still came from before falling from fatigue. Suddenly, the melody booms in his head and notes how much raw emotion it has. He suddenly recalls that time he played piano for Jung-kook. He suddenly finds the answer to why he needed to complete his piece, and that it was to capture all the emotions before it goes away. And how his music brought him both happy and sad memories, but he couldn't deny the happy ones. He realises he was back on the spot where he started, but this time he decides to go back to the city.[217]

花樣年華 The Notes in MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA
Year 22
April 11: Tae-hyung has a dream of Seok-jin for the first time after seeing him since Year 20. He recreates Seok-jin's face with black spraypaint, but stops as he is about to draw the pupils. He realises he doesn't know how he could do the pupils because the ones he saw in his dreams were cold, an expression Tae-hyung had never seen in Seok-jin's face until that dream. Tae-hyung recalls how Seok-jin watched terrible events with the expressionless face, knowing that it wasn't the Seok-jin he knew. He doesn't know why he had such a dream. As he ponders, the police comes after him.[230]
April 30: Tae-hyung spots Seok-jin sitting his car, wearing the same expression he had seen in his dream.[230] He finds Jung-kook running with an urgent expression as Seok-jin comes out of his car in frustration. Seok-jin then drops something as he looks at Jung-kook's direction.[231] Amidst this, Yoon-gi starts a fire in his room.[232]
May 2: Yoon-gi is at the hospital recovering. The doctor takes off the gauze to reveal burn marks. As the doctor changes the dressing, blood oozes out and Yoon-gi compares it to the fire. The doctor tells him that the blood is a good sign of new cells generating. Yoon-gi wonders why something needs to die for new things to sprout and if the same thing would happen when it comes to him dying that day. He looks back at the bloodstain, whether him thinking it's fire or the doctor thinking it's regeneration is the right way to put it.[232]
May 10: Ho-seok finds out that the aunt who had nursed him since he was a child had gotten sick. He then rushes to her house. He finds her bedridden yet laughing despite her circumstances. Ho-seok walks out before the two manage to make eye contact. He ends up walking along the bridge. A bus passes by, reminding him of his mother. He suddenly thinks about how both his mother and his aunt left him. Ho-seok collapses.[233][73][74]
May 29: Ji-min is at an academy not paying attention to the teacher. He notes how things got tougher even after leaving the hospital. His mother wants him to still finish up his studies and recommends him to go to a GED school. Ji-min doesn't want to go to an academy because it's burdensome. More than that, he doesn't want to talk to strangers who would ask him why he's still studying, afraid to bring back the memories he had while in high school.[234]
May 30: Seok-jin is trying to look for the map of the soul, which was his sole hint. He had looked through various bookstores and bibliographies through countless loops but found nothing. He is in a bookstore which felt familiar, but only because it was probably because it looked similar to one he had gome previously. He goes back to his car, not knowing where to go next.[235]

Seok-jin at his father's study.
June 12: Nam-joon and Tae-hyung head out to the village Nam-joon lived in before coming back to Songju. There, Nam-joon tells Tae-hyung of the time he spent in the village[60], excluding some of the details such as how he called a friend of his there "Tae-hyung". They go towards the slope where "Tae-hyung" passed away, and Tae-hyung tells Nam-joon that they shouldn't die. Eventually, Nam-joon tells Tae-hyung to talk about something Tae-hyung wanted to ask about back then at the beach, and that whatever it is they could figure it out together.[237]
June 15: Nam-joon talks about a boy named Song Woo-chang who he had first met two months ago. He had always seen him play around but noted how he always wore the same clothes. Eventually, as he leaves the gas station today, he sees Woo-chang again. He plans to ignore him and eat some ramyeon and sleep. However, he knows he only has one pack of ramyeon left and he wasn't in the mood to stock more. In the end, he walks to Woo-chang and offers him his last ramyeon.[238]
June 23: Yoon-gi gets invited to a group chat including everyone but Seok-jin and Jung-kook. There, Tae-hyung asks everyone what the map of the soul is. They find out that Ji-min crossed paths with Seok-jin at the hospital and asked him the same thing while the same happens to Nam-joon, who tells them apparently the map of the soul would end everything. Yoon-gi notes that everyone agrees Seok-jin is acting strange, but that maybe finding whatever the map of the soul is would help. He asks why Jung-kook isn't in the chat, and Ji-min tells him it's because Jung-kook is still recovering. Yoon-gi accepts the answer, wanting to let Jung-kook rest.[239]
July 24: Ji-min arrives first at the container everyone intends to go to. There, he thinks about something he wants to ask Seok-jin when he arrives. He wonders where everyone went seeing how late they are. He writes, "Congratulations, Jung-kook" on a piece of paper and sticks it to the wall. Eventually while waiting, Ji-min looks back to when he escaped out of the hospital. He wonders if, like him, Seok-jin also felt trapped. They had found some little hints he hopes could help. As he thinks of this, Yoon-gi arrives.[240] Later on, the others arrive. Jung-kook sees the "Congratulations, Jung-kook" but doesn't feel the atmosphere that seems like that. Seok-jin goes out of the container, followed by Tae-hyung and eventually the rest. He sees them talking to Seok-jin who doesn't seem to pay much attention before Seok-jin inevitably leaves. He notices the car bumpers that seem to signify an accident, leading him to recall the night of his accident. Jung-kook's leg begins to ache as he notices how the others kept talking outside the container.[241]
July 26: Jung-kook hops onto a bus stop and goes to the location of his accident, he tries to recall the events that laid out there as he lays himself on the road where he got hit, knowing how he could get another accident right then and there even if it was a quiet street at the time. He feels as though he can't trust the others, and begins to wonder if there's anyone else he could trust then.[242]
花樣年華 The Notes in MAP OF THE SOUL : 7
Year 22
April 11: Seok-jin wakes up, recalling the events of the previous loop dated September 30. He remembers seeing Nam-joon's dead body amidst the fire in container town. He ponders how many more ways could he save Nam-joon without feeling afraid nor impatient. Even after countless loops, Seok-jin still hasn't figured out what the map of the soul is, which was something that he needed to find to end everything. When he asked what the map of the soul is, the voice told him that hints come at a cost. Seok-jin drives towards the gas station. The only thing in his mind is to stop the accident on September 30. He'd learned from the many loops that surviving and getting to escape the loop is more important than saving everyone.[243]

Jung-kook having his nightmare.
July 18: Nam-joon and Tae-hyung have been looking around the rooftop of buildings in Songju for the last two week. Their only hint comes from Tae-hyung's dream of a can of coffee and a four-leaf clover. Nam-joon notes how it has been raining for a few days, and that eventually, they gave up on bringing umbrellas. Nam-joon looks up to the building, which contained the offices of one Kim Chang-joon. Tae-hyung asks who he is, which baffles Nam-joon because it was one of the cases where Tae-hyung didn't seem to know the obvious. Nam-joon tells Tae-hyung that Kim Chang-joon is Seok-jin's father.[246]. Meanwhile, Ji-min is walking around the convenience store near the neighborhood of their old school. He comes across a graffiti that he recognizes as something done by Tae-hyung. It's a graffiti of a person that showed no particular emotion.[230] Ji-min immediately recognizes it to be Seok-jin. However, as he thinks of Seok-jin, someone else's face comes to his mind that ends up looking identical as well to the graffiti due to their soulless eyes. Suddenly, Ji-min realises who he has to find.[247]
July 23: Tae-hyung, Nam-joon, Ji-min, and Yoon-gi go back to their secret hideout. Ji-min sits while leaning on the wall, Yoon-gi sits on the piano bench, and Nam-joon writes something on the window with his finger. Nam-joon gets reminded of their school days, to which Yoon-gi brushes it off. Nam-joon wonders why they were born into the world in its current state. Just then, Ji-min finds Seok-jin's father's name. He also points out another name whom he knew at the mental hospital. Yoon-gi points out the name Choi Gyu-ho, a person who went missing. Below the names, Nam-joon finds the phrase, "Everything started here."[248]
July 24: Ho-seok tells Seok-jin to try and talk to his father about the redevelopment, which will affect the orphanage where Ho-seok grew up in. He fights back tears as Seok-jin looks at him with his expression unchanged. Seok-jin tells Ho-seok that nothing can be done. Ho-seok realises that a line has been drawn between the two of them, and that while Ho-seok is trying to live in fantasy, Seok-jin is living in reality. He realises that he can't be friends with Seok-jin. Ho-seok begins to shout and plead at Seok-jin, knowing in the end that none of it is going to help because they're all mere words. He knows that in the end, he's mad at himself and not at Seok-jin because he's the one who can't do anything and is nothing in the end.[249] Later that day, Tae-hyung spies a middle-aged woman, who goes out of her apartment room and to the banister. The woman smokes cigarette after cigarette as Tae-hyung continues to watch her from the distance. The sun is beginning to rise, and Tae-hyung wonders what the woman would think if she spots him. Eventually, the woman goes back to her room and Tae-hyung takes note of which room she took. Tae-hyung notes it to be his mother's house.[250]
July 29: Ho-seok goes to Hagok, noting that it's similar to Songju but livelier. He had vowed to act someone that's not Jung Ho-seok in the slightest. Someone who is careless and bumped into others with no care, someone who eats spicy foods and not complimenting the food to the server, and someone who would even spit on the ground. He finds a strip mall with a soon-to-open shop, a stationery shop, and a gimbap shop. It reminds him of how Two Star Burger is located. As Ho-seok wonders about where he'll be moving, he bumps into someone. He instinctively apologizes but immediately stops himself before continuing, putting up his opposite demeanor. However, he notices the person he bumped into was someone he knows.[251]
August 2: Yoon-gi sends a music file to Seok-jin. He had found an old music sheet when he went back to their secret hideout and had since polished it. The music sheet had the title, "We Can Laugh When We're Together." He notes how the writing wasn't his own, and he isn't sure if it was Seok-jin's. Yoon-gi then recalls a time back then when he and Seok-jin were walking across the athletic field. The two had been awkward as Yoon-gi slowed his pace in the hopes that Seok-jin would leave him. Seok-jin would try to start a conversation but end up making them more awkward around each other. Yoon-gi asked Seok-jin when was the last time he genuinely laughed, but Seok-jin didn't reply. Yoon-gi didn't press further. Yoon-gi notes how the music written in the sheet is childish and not beautiful. Whenever he thinks of high school, he just wants to get himself drunk. However, he knows that he still wants to polish this work and in the end keep the title of "We Can Laugh When We're Together."[252]
August 3: Seok-jin is looking through photos on the floor when suddenly they felt like moving. Jung-kook looks towards him. Seok-jin notes how all the memories suddenly flooded in him, hearing everyone's laughter and seeing everyone have fun through the photos. He wonders how he had forgotten all those memories when he finds something shimmering in his pocket.[253] Later on, Jung-kook is playing a shooting game. The game's map reminds him of the container town in Songju station. He changes his weapon to a machine gun when he spots someone wearing a black bandana. Suddenly, he starts to laugh when he notices how his enemies looked like his friends. Someone hits his character on the shoulder. When he looks back, he sees someone that looks like Seok-jin. Jung-kook's rage beings to boil all over.[254]
August 12: Ji-min hugs his younger self, reassuring him that when he grows up he'll meet great friends who'll help him become a better person. He tells his younger self to be stronger as he begins to cry. Eventually, Ji-min opens his eyes to find his younger self gone. He sees the entrance to the Grass Flower Aboretuum in the distance, finding it with no trace of rain.[255]
August 25: Nam-joon is trapped inside his container with Woo-chang as it burns. He falls down while coughing from the heat. He covers Woo-chang with a wet blanket as he tells him to try and jump on the window. As the two are about to jump, things begin to fall outside, blocking their exit.[256]

July 15: Testesso posts his third entry on the Flower Smeraldo Blog. There, he talks about the current typhoon, and how due to that the construction of the flower shop was put to a stop. He visits the shop after dinner to check if nothing's broken and ends up staying there and watching the rain. However, a young man with an umbrella suddenly comes in front of the shop. He wants to start a conversation with the man but ends up not doing so because he isn't really sure of what the man's intentions are. Although it was dark, he thinks a part of why he doesn't want to talk to him is due to being unable to read the man's emotions. 10 minutes pass and the man eventually goes away, leaving Testesso confused as to whether the man thought it was the place before it got replaced by the shop or that he was hallucinating on seeing the man.[276]
