As the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult to access the concert venue, we wanted to create an opportunity for fans to come together and watch the concert together. We came up with the idea of 'Previewing Live' in theaters and are delighted to offer an alternative experience for fans to enjoy the show live.

Performances[]

In 2022, BTS held their first domestic live shows since 2019 before a limited in-person audience, once again at the Olympic Stadium. They performed on March 10, 12, and 13. Previous pandemic restrictions placed specifically on pop concert performances only allowed for up to 4,000 attendees. The BTS concerts were approved for 15,000 attendees per day, marking the largest music gatherings permitted by the South Korean government since COVID-19 protocols first went into effect. Cheering, screaming, and singing-along was prohibited during the shows and 750 safety personnel were present onsite to ensure all restrictions were adhered to. The shows on the 10th and 13th were additionally streamed online through Weverse. A global live-viewing event was held for the concert on the 12th. It was broadcast to over 3,000 theatres worldwide.[1]

Box Office[]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, BTS’ ‘Permission to Dance on Stage: Seoul’ earned $6.9million (£5,288,840) in 800 theatres across North America, becoming the top-grossing live cinema event of all time. In addition, it beat out The Batman in 55 North American theatres, and was a clear second in its remaining locations.

The live screening also raked in over $32.6million (£24,987,855) across 75 markets worldwide, bringing in more revenue in one day than some Hollywood movies generated in their opening weekends over the pandemic, as reported by Variety.

“It’s a testament to both the overwhelmingly dedicated fandom of the ARMY (BTS’ official fan base) and the overall return to cinemas on a global scale”, added Trafalgar Releasing CEO Marc Allenby, the North American distributor for the concert.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Jimin revealed his first tattoo in 2014 when BTS performed at the MAMA Awards. Years passed and he added new designs such as the word “NEVERMIND” on the rib and the number “13” on the wrist.
  • Now, it looks like Jimin has a moon tattooed on the back of his head and a few more words behind his ear. It is speculated that it would be the artist's signature, but without confirmation so far.[3]
